Helpful Facts About Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose veins are painful and unattractive. Shaheen Vascular is here to help. With varicose vein treatment in Mountain View, you can enjoy beautiful legs and a pain-free life.

What is Varicose Vein Treatment?

The specific varicose vein treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms. Let’s take a look at some of the most effective treatment methods on the market today.

Laser Treatment

With endovenous laser treatment, a doctor will insert a catheter into your vein with a small laser threaded through it. Positioned at the top of your diseased vein, it will emit short bursts of energy to seal it shut with heat. Gradually, our doctor will thread the laser completely up the vein, sealing the entire thing.

Radiofrequency Ablation

Similar to endovenous laser treatment, radiofrequency ablation involves heating up the diseased vein to destroy it. In this case, a probe which emits radiofrequency energy is inserted into the catheter. This energy heats the vein, causing its walls to collapse. This effectively closes it and seals it shut.

Sclerotherapy

While radiofrequency ablation is ideal for larger varicose veins, sclerotherapy is oftentimes the ideal varicose vein treatment for small and medium-sized varicose veins. During this treatment, a solution is injected into the diseased veins, causing them to scar and close. They should fade within weeks. If the varicose vein is large, it may need to be injected again.

Compression Stockings

If your varicose veins are not visible and your symptoms are mild to moderate, you may find compression stockings to be appropriate. This is often the case during pregnancy because after childbirth, the volume of blood in the body and hormones normalize.

Compression stockings or tight wraps around your legs squeeze your legs steadily. This helps your leg muscles and veins move blood back up to your heart more efficiently. You may have to try several compression stockings to find the right amount of compression for you. While you can purchase compression stockings at most medical supply stores or pharmacies, we recommend prescription-strength compression stockings to treat your varicose veins.
