Enjoying the Benefits of Endovenous Laser Ablation

Varicose veins are an unattractive condition that affects the legs and thighs. Varicose veins are characterized by enlarged, twisted, and bulging blood vessels. They may result in the swelling of the legs and make walking and standing uncomfortable. Thankfully, there is endovenous laser ablation to save the day. This is a modern, minimally-invasive treatment for varicose veins. For more information, you can reach out to our experts at Shaheen Vascular.

What is Endovenous Laser Ablation?

Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) also goes by the name laser vein ablation. It is a minimally-invasive process for treating varicose veins. The main cause of varicose veins is blood flowing back to the blood vessels, which causes them to swell and bulge through the skin. The goal of endovenous laser ablation is to seal the vein from the inside using laser energy.

EVLA works through heat therapy. A thin catheter tube is inserted into the vein. A laser emitter is then beamed onto the vein. The generated heat “injures” the vein walls, thus prompting the body to close the vein, or what is known as cauterizing. When a vein closes, the blood flows out of it, thus regressing in form and size. For the veins that do not completely close down, additional procedures may be recommended though not mandated.

What to Expect During Treatment

It all starts with a consultation, during which we’ll make sure the treatment is right for you. We can also give you realistic expectations regarding what to expect before, during  and after the treatment.

Before the procedure, the professional will “map” your vein network and pinpoint the affected varicose veins. A guide may then be drawn on the skin.

The procedure is performed in the comfort of our office and may take just minutes to carry out. The results become noticeable in the following weeks and months depending on the severity of the condition and other factors.

The endovenous laser ablation procedure offers many benefits, including:

  • Minimally-invasive
